US Open 2025 results: Carlos Alcaraz’s Novak Djokovic enters the New York semifinals

Djokovic built his entire career – arguably the greatest career ever – making the status quo awful.

When he first became a force in the late 2000s, he was an outsider looking to break down the double monopolists of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

For nearly 20 years, Djokovic found himself squeezed out in the men’s match between Sinner and Alcaraz.

Although Djokovic remains the third best player in the world, his time has been cut back on years and reduced his timeline.

He has a glimpse of the quality of Alcaraz, such as the old-fashioned backhand title in the first set, and a batting on his way to win 27 rallies in the second inning.

But in the end, Djokovic had no speed or stamina to maintain the highest level against Alcalaz and the sinner.

Alcaraz supported it with an active ground sprint early in the rally to overwhelm Djokovic at a critical moment.

Former world No. 1 Djokovic has proven this year that he still has enough time to make the semifinals of all four majors, but encountering 30 unmandatory mistakes that show his pressure on Alkaraz and the sinner.

Ultimately, he would never believe he could not win – even if he piled up with his odds.

“They’re so good, they play at a high level,” Djokovic said.

“I ran out of gas. I was happy with the tennis level – it was just its body.”
