Coco Gauff struggles with serve but wins in Wuhan

French Open champion Coco Gauff stuttered but ultimately defeated Jasmine Paolini to reach the Wuhan Open final.

The 21-year-old defeated the seventh seed from Italy 6-4 6-3 to reach the final for the first time since winning the French Open in June.

Gauff might have won in straight sets, but struggled on serve, being broken five times and double-faulting seven times – while Paolini actually won more points in the match.

Gauff will face world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka or Jessica Pegula in the final.

Defending champion Sabalenka beat Rybakina in straight sets in the quarterfinals on Friday, extending her winning streak in Wuhan to 20 matches.
