Clara Tauson defeats Madison Keys

Clara Tauson won the American Madison Keys 6-1 6-4 on Tuesday to reach her second WTA 1000 and a half in her career, making the last four of the Canadian Open.

Danish player Tauson finished 16th in Montreal, gaining another major scalp after beating second seed Iga Swiatek in the last round.

After beating the sixth seed key, the 22-year-old revealed that she had done so while dealing with her personal tragedy.

“Two days ago, my grandfather passed away – so I really wanted to win for him today,” Towson said after the game.

“I was told the day after I was beaten by Swiatek, so yesterday, I really wanted to come here to show him my best tennis.

“I hope he’s watching.”

Tauson, ranked 19th in the world, was clinically clinical at the opening ceremony for the keys, transformed her resting spot and was available for service in just half an hour.

The Australian Open Championship Keys fell again earlier this second time, while Towson kept his nerves working to win a second straight win among the top ten opponents in the world.
