Chelsea is still watching “special” £50m

Chelsea’s pursuit of Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens seems to hit a barrier. The Blues ideally hope to bring the wingers to the club’s World Cup before they will face LAFC in their first game. However, since the deadline is 7pm on Tuesday, this is not the Blues.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed they have lost the deal with AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan. This means that forward Liam Delap and defender Mamadou Sarr are the only new players to arrive before the U.S. game after the Gittens trade is not completed.

In the long run, everything that happened to Gittens, he may not be the only winger to turn to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Chelsea’s Gittens alternative

Romano confirmed that the West London outfit wanted to sign Gittens, even later this summer,” explaining that the move was not “rushing”. It showed that it was their pursuit of independence for another Premier League winger.

Speaking with DAZN this time, Romano suggested that the Blues could still take action for Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho. He explained that Argentina International was “appreciated” by Stamford Bridge’s advanced rise.

They may not be the only party to sign Garnacho this summer. Bayer Leverkusen is now managed by former Manchester United boss Erik Ten partners, known as the winger according to Romano, but he explained that players want to stay in the Premier League.

Garnacho

As for the charges, TeamTalk reported last weekend that the Red Devils expected Garnacho to be at least £50 million.

Why Garnacho will be a good signature

Despite having a tough season at times for Garnacho, he is undoubtedly an exciting talent, described by football statistician Statman Dave as a “special” player. He also ended the campaign in a strong way.

Garnacho-Man-Utd

The 20-year-old has won three major trophies from the club and the country, assisting in his name in all games with 21 goals and assists at the end of 2024/25. He managed to do this stat for Manchester United in 58 games.

In the Premier League, the former Madrid Academy player worked for consistency. He scored 6 goals in 36 games and assisted twice. At the end of the season, nearly half of the goals were involved, including this amazing strike, with Garnacho grabbing four in nine games.

Perhaps Garnacho may actually be considered a greater talent than Chelsea’s other target Gittens. There is no doubt that England Under 21 international competition is an exciting player. Last season, he scored 12 goals and five assists in 48 games at Dortmund.

Of course, this is less than Garnacho proposed. That being said, it’s worth remembering that the Red Devils’ No. 17 effect played another ten games, despite his much higher productivity.

Dortmund Jami Gitters

Most importantly, Garnacho’s contribution to Manchester United’s silverware is crucial to their success. He scored in the FA Cup final against Manchester City in 2023/24, showing his ruthless nature, and then made a mistake behind him.

FBREF also has excellent statistics, which suggests that Garnacho is bigger than Gittens. For example, in all games last season, the United Winger averaged 1.68 key passes and 5.8 progressive passes per 90 minutes compared to the Dortmund star’s 1.07 key passes and 5.53 progressive progress.

Gittens will be a powerful addition to Chelsea Squad, but Garnacho may be a bigger talent. The 20-year-old has three major trophys and he contributes to him, while the basic numbers show his fatality.

If Chelsea decides to take action for a player who can add a whole new dimension to the offense, then £50 million could be a Chelsea bargain.
