Anaheim Duck Trade Trevor Zegras to Philadelphia Flyer

On Monday morning, the Anaheim Ducks announced that they had traded forward Trevor Zegras to the Philadelphia Flyers, Ryan Poehling, the 45th pick (a 2025 second-round pick originally held by Columbus) and a 2026 fourth-round pick.

Rumor has it that Trevor Zegras has moved from Anaheim in the past few seasons. A few years ago, he had a long and controversial contract negotiation. Zegras and Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek spent his three-year bridge deal ahead of the season that he agreed to a $5.75 million per season.

NHL Rumor: Anaheim Ducks is still calling Trevor Zegras

Although former Ducks head coach Greg Cronin helped Zegras develop his two-way game as a defender, it seems that Zegras won’t be with the Ducks and this season. Again, Zegras’ name is often seen in trade rumors along with goalkeeper John Gibson. But on Monday morning, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, something happened.

“According to multiple sources, the Anaheim Ducks are having a “big discussion” with multiple teams on the Trevor Zegras Trade, and it’s very likely that the talented 24-year-old striker will be traded this week,” Friedman wrote in SportsNet’s Quick Post.

So, from the flyer and duck perspective, this kind of deal will soon come together.

Flyers are acquiring players with huge upside potential. The ninth pick in the 2019 NHL Draft scored 60 consecutive seasons in 2021-22 and 2202-23. It is undeniable that talent is talented. However, his final seasons were interrupted by injuries. The ducks weren’t sure what was inside them. Is he the center? Is he a winger?

When Zegras heads to Philadelphia, the belief is that he will play in the game, and that’s how the flyer lists him when making the trade official. During the game against the Ducks, Zegras scored 186 points (67 goals and 119 assists) in 268 games. He is known for his flashy goals and will learn to develop more under head coach Rick Tocchet.

NHL Rumor: Does Trevor Zegras have a future with the Anaheim Ducks?

Obviously, Zegras is not a Pat Verbeek guy. Although Verbeek squeezed any idea that Zegra left in his year-end media, he was impressed by how Zegra mastered Cronin’s words and applied them. But the problem is to have new coaches like Joel Quenneville come in and want the playoffs to change the horizons of players. Or just strengthening the idea that most people aren’t going to be on the long run in Anaheim.

Verbeek almost said a lot in the press release: “I want to thank Trevor for his contribution and efforts over the past six years,” said Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek. “While this is a tough deal, we have and will continue to consider re-creating the lineup in the coming months, and this deal is part of the process. We hope Trevor will have luck with the flyer.”

NHL Rumor: Anaheim will trade Trevor Zegras?

In the case of Paulin, the Ducks are getting a solid player who can fit the hexagon while continuing to reinstall the lineup to support Quenneville.

With the experiences of players like Leo Carlsson, Mason Mctavish, Cutter Gauthier and Brett Leason, Zegras was passed on in-depth lists, so it makes sense from the perspective of both teams to finalize the deal. Zegras will now be in Philadelphia with his friend Jamie Drysdale.
