Tyler Herro expects to sign a contract with Heat

Miami Heat defender Tyler Herro soon qualifies for a three-year, $149.7 million extension for his current four-year, $120 million rookie-scale contract.

Hot, Tyler Herro must arrive until October 20th

Herro hopes to reach an agreement next month.

“I hope to do something,” Hero said of his contract expansion window, opening Wednesday and continuing until October 20, the day before the NBA opened the 2025-26 regular season.

“It’s not as important as you think, I’ll say that,” Herro added. “It’s not important to me. It’s important here – but I should say that the numbers here are important. For me, I have a number in my mind like I did on my last contract.”

“That’s why I don’t accept the maximum because I’m not suppressing it, and I’m not under pressure right now. I feel like a lot of people have already invested $50 million or nothing.”

“It’s not that. You know what I mean? At the end of the day, I want to be here, as I said. But it’s about respect at the end of the day. So we’ll see what happens.”

If no agreement is reached by October 20, Herro will be eligible to sign a four-year, $269 million extension in the next offseason. If he is appointed to the All-NBA in 2025-26, then he is eligible (five years, $380 million).

The timing of extending the window was at least in the first month of the regular season after recent ankle surgery, where he placed him in training camp.

Herro won its first All-Star Trial in 2025

Additionally, Herro does not believe the injury is a damage to the negotiations, as the 25-year-old is still on contract for the next two seasons.

“I have two years of deals left,” he said. “This shouldn’t stop anything. I’ll be back near November 15, will I be back?”

Despite the past injuries that have bothered Hero, the former sixth man has had 77 games last season. Miami lost all five games he missed.

Herro averaged at least 20 points for the fourth straight season, and he scored at least 35 points with 5 points with a record of 2024-25, a career-high 47.2%, averaging 5.5 assists per game.

Hero also won his first All-Star appearance.

After his career, Kentucky’s product thought he deserved to be expanded.

“It’s important to me,” Hero said of the expansion. “Being here for six years. I feel like I’ve made it. I’m not saying what I’ve made, but I’ve made something. I think I deserve it, and ultimately I want to be here.

“And I’ve said that. But I do want to say that this is not a top priority and I won’t get in the way of getting a postponement this season.”
