Canucks reduce training camp roster before preseason vs. Kraken – Hockey Writer – Vancouver Canucks

The Canucks announced several training camp rosters ahead of their first preseason game against Seattle Kraken. The name is not surprisingly one of the first round of layoffs, as all nine people signed an amateur trial contract (ATO) or tied to the American Hockey League (AHL) or the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). The roster is now 50 players.
9 players cut out from the training camp lineup
After this round of cuts, Braeden Cootes remains the only 2025 draft pick in the lineup and will be playing for Kraken tonight’s preseason. Gabriel Chiarot, Aleksei Medvedev and Kieren Dervin are the others, but are all back to the OHL team now. The OHL’s regular season starts on September 18, so I’m sure their respective teams are happy to bring them back, especially Medvedev with the London Cavaliers. After Austin Elliott moved to the NCAA to join UMass-Lowell, he planned to be their starter. Meanwhile, Riley Patterson will join him later in the offseason with his new team, Barrie Colts.
As for others heading to the AHL, Josh Bloom will hope to play the entire season at Abbotsford after spending most of his time in the ECHL last season. Jackson Kunz was selected by Canucks in 2020, and the group is still not signed, but will try to grab and earn an AHL deal with Abbotsford. He played a game with them at the end of last season and recorded an assist against Bakersfield’s Condor.

There will definitely be more cuts after tonight’s Kraken game as the Canucks continues to count until the season opener on October 9.
