Chicago is hopeful rookie TE Colston Loveland clears during training camp

The Chicago Bears died in the NFC North with a 5-12 record in 2024. After last season, the Bears parted ways with head coach Matt Eberflus. As his replacement, Chicago hired former Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.

The Bears ranked 10th in the 2025 NFL Draft. Despite Cole Kmet on the list having a capable TE, they drafted Colston Loveland from Michigan. On January 29, 2025, Loveland underwent surgery to repair grade 5 AC joint separation and lip tear. The rookie has been recovering and the Bear hopes he will be clear during training camp. The rookie report will be Saturday, July 19.

When will Colston Loveland be able to clear Chicago in full?

Based on his injury and surgery schedule, Colston Loveland is expected to prepare for his rookie season. Chicago opened the 2025 season with the Vikings’ MNF in Week 1. Recently, rookie TE talked to MLive’s Aaron McMann. Colston Loveland told him that the shoulder recovery process was “good” but he didn’t see much on-site action. But Loveland said he will soon get the latest news about his level of participation in the upcoming training camp.

Chicago used the top ten in the draft for TE because such a force didn’t need it. This talks about how the coaching staff and the front desk view Loveland. The 21-year-old played for the Wolverines for three seasons and won the roster in 2023. Colston Loveland had 117 catches for 1,466 yards and 11 touchdowns during his time at Michigan.

In the 2020 NFL Draft, the Bears chose Te Cole Kmet in the second round at Notre Dame. The 26-year-old has never missed a game in his five-year career. He has been a full-time starter in Chicago since 2021. Offensive genius Ben Johnson will find a way to achieve this.

Colston Loveland is still waiting for clearance to go all out this summer. The bear didn’t want to risk recovery from Loveland too quickly and get further injured. Chicago has made some improvements to QB Caleb Williams’ sophomore offense. Most notably, his head coach Ben Johnson. Fans can’t wait to see Johnson help Williams take his game to another level. What will the Bears’ 2025 record after 5-12 in 2024?
