Carolina Hurricanes’ hot start relies on multi-point winning streak – Hockey Writer – Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes became the only undefeated team in the NHL after defeating the Anaheim Ducks 4-1 on Thursday night (October 16). One of the reasons they’re off to an impressive 4-0-0 start in 2025-26 is that they’ve had five players score in four straight games. Also, it helps when you hit two milestones on the same night.

Hurricanes milestones and scoring streaks

The Hurricanes reached the first milestone Thursday night when Seth Jarvis scored his 100th NHL goal in 308 games. He became the fifth-fastest Hurricanes player to achieve the feat, behind Eric Staal who accomplished the feat in 268 games. Jarvis finished the night with three points (two goals and an assist) and has seven points in his first four games of the season. He is tied with Shayne Gostisbehere for the points lead and also leads the team in goals (5). Meanwhile, Gostisbehere’s seven points tied him with Cale Makar for the lead among NHL defensemen. What a hot start for the Phantom, whose +9 points and four-game scoring streak are the best start to a career season.

Gostisbecher has inserted himself into some elite teams, as he is one of two players to start the season at +2 and have at least one point in his first four games. Another player, Wayne Gretzky, returned in 1988 (via Canes Stat Brand). For a guy to play in the offside position and play so well, it shows how valuable he will be to the Hurricanes to start the 2025-26 season.

While Gostisbecher is off to a hot start to the season, one can’t forget about his defensive partner Alexander Nikishin, who also had a monumental night. Nikishin scored his first career NHL goal less than three minutes into the third period Thursday night. After great passes from Gostis Behere and Sebastian Aho, the 23-year-old Russian fired the ball past Lukas Dostal, capturing a moment he will always remember. It only took four games of the regular season, but “Nicky” has officially reached a milestone moment, which shows how happy the team was for him during and after the game. Gostisbehere has a plus-9 rating, while Nikishin has a plus-6 rating so far this season. Additionally, he is one of five players to score in four consecutive games.

In addition to Nikishin and Gostisbehere, the other players who have scored in four consecutive games are Aho, Jarvis and Jackson Black. Aho scored his first goal of the season against the Ducks after being the primary assist on Nikishin’s goal. He scored 6 points, third on the team, behind Gostis Behere and Jarvis’ 7 points. He has five assists this season, which still draws attention to his solid performance before scoring his first goal of the season. The top line of Jarvis and Aho has been outstanding at the start of the 2025-26 season, combining for 13 points, already making them a lethal duo for the Hurricanes. Once Nikolaj Ehlers gets going, watch out.

Blake provided the primary assist on Jarvis’ second goal of the game. Blake was promoted to the first team, replacing Andrei Svechnikov, and after going nowhere on the man advantage since the first game, it’s a good thing the Hurricanes are scoring on special teams. Blake continued his winning streak with four points (one goal, three assists) tied with Nikishin and Taylor Hall. Despite seeing some streaks end with no one scoring outside of the five players still scoring, it’s good to see the team succeed on the back of consistent players.

The Hurricanes begin their six-game road trip with a 2-0-0 record and some tough opponents on the horizon. Their next game will be against the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday, October 18, and they will look to remain the remaining undefeated team in the NHL. Additionally, five consecutive scorers will hope to see the tally reach five points while ensuring another win.

The early success has been a huge help for the Hurricanes, as they lead the NHL in goals against per game (4.75) and rank fourth in goals allowed per game (2.00). Although they are a strong 5v5 team, after four games their penalty kill percentage ranks fifth in the NHL (92.9%). They are still struggling on the power play (14.3% – 25th) and will hopefully turn things around with a goal from Jarvis. The Hurricanes are off to a great start to the season and will look to continue that form with a full team commitment since opening night on October 9th. Consistent performance from the five players of Jarvis, Aho, Nikishin, Gostisbehri and Black will help keep things fresh. Can they win five games in a row and make it a winning streak? Only time will tell on Saturday night.
