After the acquisition of Connor Ingram, it was clear that the Oilers were willing to take action to fill their depth charts and improve their roster, and Reichel could be a high-risk, high-reward project that proved to be a valuable asset if he developed some confidence in his new team.
As Matheson mentioned, fixed Reicher’s salary can be tough and could lead to people like Mattias Janmark trading elsewhere in separate deals, but to a minimum, the Oiler has signed in.
Where would Reichel be suitable?
It’s hard to see Reischer fitting immediately into the top six world, but it’s possible he’s a look with German striker Leon Draisaitl at some point. If it was a low-cost acquisition, the Oiler could use him as a deep forward, who scored six points at the bottom line and competed for a place in the lineup in every game. If he can rebound, his chances will grow.

There are some serious loopholes in his game, if he wants to stick with the NHL, whether it’s a team with the Oilers, the Blackhawks or other players who take advantage of low-cost projects. This is likely his last blow to becoming a full-time NHL player, and although his original skills are indeed strong, he needs to fine-tune the rest of the game if he wants to establish his own effective player.
