Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Rolex Shanghai Masters due to a left ankle injury.
Despite hurting his ankle in Tokyo’s opening match against Sebastian Baez, Alcaraz was promoted to the eighth ATP Tour title this season. According to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, the 22-year-old’s 67-game victory was the highest championship he won in a season.
With the Spaniards evacuated, Corentin Moutet, the next player to be sown, became the 33rd seed and brought Alcaraz’s position to the draw. The Frenchman will face Beijing finalist Tien or Miomir Kecmanovic in the second round.

Jannik Sinner, second in the PIF ATP ranking, is now the highest-ranked player in Shanghai. The Italian will play Daniel Altmaier or the qualifier/lucky loser in his opening game in the second half of the draw.
