Capitals gets coming from the Panthers Justin Sourdif for future draft picks – Hockey Writer – NHL News

On Thursday night, the Washington Capitals acquired Justin Sourdif from the Florida Panthers in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick.
Sourdif, 23, recorded 34 points in 43 games for the Charlotte Chess last season in the American Hockey League (AHL). Despite the limited number of games, the 5-foot-11 striker ranked fifth (16) in goals in the 2024-25 season. He accumulated 10 points in 18 playoff games on his way to the Calder Cup final, and scored four points in a six-game series loss to Abbotsford Canucks.
Panthers drafted Richmond, British Columbia Nationality The 87th pick was ranked in the third round of the 2020 NHL Draft. Sourdif skated in three games against Florida in the 2023-24 season. He scored his only goal against the Panthers in the 2024-25 campaign, scoring against Jusse Saros and Nashville Predators in a 4-1 victory in February 2025.
The Panthers pick up assets for limited free agents (RFAs) who seem to have no seats in the roster. Meanwhile, the capital added a forward to a group that is expected to lose several forwards, such as Andrew Mangiapane, in a free agent agency.
By trade, Washington will have six draft picks in next year’s draft, but no longer have a draft pick in the second or third round. Florida now has two second-round picks in the 2026 NHL draft.
The deal will not affect the five draft picks available in Washington at the 2025 NHL Draft tomorrow night in Los Angeles, including No. 27 in the first round. The Panthers also plan to make multiple options this weekend. However, the dominant Stanley Cup champion had no additional trades until Saturday’s fourth round.
