Bourque scored his first goal of the new season at 4:29 of the first quarter. Bourque passed the ball to Sam Steele in front of the net, but the ball was broken up by Elias Pettersson and past Demko.
Rantanen doubled the Stars’ lead with a power-play goal with 37.9 seconds left in the opening period. Jason Robertson sent a cross-ice pass to Rantanen in the offensive zone, and Rantanen fired a perfect wrist shot inside the post past Demko’s blocker.
The Canucks made a quick comeback, and it all started with Chitil at 6:40 in the middle. Stars defenseman Thomas Haley was unable to keep the puck at the Dallas blue line, allowing Chytil to break through and beat DeSmith’s blocking team.
Boeser tied the game with a power-play goal at 8:50 off a tip-in by Quinn Hughes.
The Canucks completed their comeback at halftime with Sasson’s first goal of the season. Tyler Myers sent a nice bank pass to Sasson at the Stars blue line, and Sasson fired the puck past DeSmith’s blocker.
Garland scored another goal with 66 seconds left in the second quarter to help the Canucks take a 4-2 lead into the third quarter.
Johnston scored his fourth goal of the season with two minutes remaining, making the end of the game more interesting than Dallas fans could have imagined.
However, that was all they got, as the Canucks won 5-3 thanks to an empty-net goal by Quinn Hughes.
The Canucks trailed 31-26 but went 2-for-3 on the power play. The Stars made 2 of 4 shots with their personnel advantage.
