Brewers injury news: William Contreras, Caleb Durbin, Sal Frelick

Milwaukee announced health news for several players Thursday. catcher William Contreras Infielder could face corrective surgery on finger Caleb Durbin Reports such as MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy say elbow surgery is expected. outfielder Sal Frilick No worries, even the pitchers Trevor Megill, DL Halland Logan Henderson.
Contreras played most of the season with a broken middle finger on his left hand. The injury was announced in early May but is believed to have occurred during the 2024 season. McAlvey noted that Contreras will meet with a hand specialist next week for “potential corrections.”
The 27-year-old guard is coming off the worst season of his three-year tenure in Milwaukee. Contreras slashed .260/.355/.399 with a 113 wRC+. Those are solid marks for most receivers, but Contreras has set the bar pretty high since arriving from Atlanta. His batting average exceeded .280 and his slugging percentage exceeded .450 for two consecutive seasons. Contreras didn’t miss a beat with the injured finger, but it seemed to inhibit his power. He totaled 35 extra-base hits last season, following singles and doubles in 2023 and 2024.
Durbin is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic elbow surgery next week. The infielder suffered an elbow irritation late in the season, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. He is expected to stay healthy through the 2026 campaign.
Durbin came to the Brewers last offseason, getting closer via trade Devin Williams to the Yankees. He started the season with Triple-A Nashville, but was promoted to the major league club just weeks into the season. Dubin hit well enough to retain the third base job for the rest of the year. He also played second base and shortstop. Durbin slashed a respectable .256/.334/.387 while recording double-digit home runs and stolen bases. He hit safely in six of Milwaukee’s nine postseason games, including two doubles and a triple.
Frilick battled knee soreness in the final months of the regular season. He missed a few games in early August but never made the trip to Illinois. Offseason knee imaging results came back normal, with the team describing the results as “unremarkable.” Frilick is expected to have a normal offseason.
Megill and Hall both returned from injury in time for the playoffs. Megill’s flexor strain and Hall’s oblique issue are considered fully recovered. Henderson’s season was cut short by a flexor strain of his own, but he too is now free to go.
Quinn Priest Expect to have a normal offseason after dealing with wrist soreness. He never went to Illinois due to injury and had the opportunity to play in two postseason games. The issue will be resolved through treatment and rehabilitation before the 2026 season.
