Brentford director claims despite Manchester United’s interest

Brentford’s football director Phil Giles has confirmed the club’s strong interest with Manchester United, who had a “continuous conversation” with Bryan Mbeumo, who saw two bids rejecting the striker.

Although the 25-year-old Cameroon international expressed his desire to move to Old Trafford, Brentford is still struggling to reach a deal until the Red Devils reach their valuation.

Giles spoke with the BBC Sport on Monday and explained that there was not much progress in potential transfers.

“He had a fantastic season,” Giles said. “We expect him to have a lot of interest in him, we have a lot of interest in him.

“He has his own ideas about the career he wants to go to. He is all good within his own rights.

“He will remain a Brentford player next season if we agree that he is going to stay.”

Giles made it clear that the club would approve the sale if the terms fit them.

“Any club will tell you,” he added. “If this is not the right deal, why should we do that?”

“He is certainly one of our best players, if not our best players, we need our best players. Keeping the best players without any harm.”

Giles also provided the latest news about Christian Norgaard, confirming that the Brentford captain is about to move to Arsenal.

“We’ve been talking to Arsenal for the past week to 10 days,” Giles said. “For now, it’s not done, but it’s heading in that direction.

“If that was great for him, then he won. He has always been our excellent captain.

“Let’s see how this story ends, but we’re very open to the interest there.”
