game review
In the 14th minute of the first half, Alex Carpenter passed the ball to Anna Wilgren on the blue line. She took a shot but Emerance Maschmeyer saved it. It was a wild scramble at the net, but Julia Gosling picked up the rebound. She scored the first goal in Torrent’s history.
The Goldeneyes evened the score just three minutes later. Sarah Nurse stole the puck from a bad Seattle pass at center ice. She turned quickly, skated to the net, and seized the three-on-one opportunity. Her shot scored the first goal in Goldeneyes history.
With seconds left in the first period, Hilary Knight passed the puck to Gosling in the faceoff circle. She shot and scored her second goal of the night.
Midway through the second quarter, Emily Brown sat down to interfere. During the free throw, Teresa Vanisova hit Aneta Tegelalova hard. She was helped off the ice but returned to the bench. Vanisova’s shot is under review but was deemed a clean contest.
One minute into the third quarter, Claire Thompson passed the ball to Abby Bolin on the blue line in the neutral zone. She passed the ball to Gabby Rosenthal, who skated to the front of the net. She tied the score early with a beautiful shot.
Midway through the third quarter, it was announced that Tejralova had once again left the game and would not return. Although she wanted to come back sooner, it seemed she was still too uncomfortable. Ultimately, Tegelalova made the best decision for her not to overwork her already injured body.
With six minutes left in the game, Hanna Birka fired the puck over the goal line. The goal was immediately disallowed but went into official review. After deliberation, it was deemed that the puck had crossed the goal line, giving the Rapids the lead.
With two minutes left, GoldenEye goes to work. Brooke McGregor took a shot and Colleen Schroeder appeared to have the puck covered, but the puck remained loose. Thompson caught the ball and fired it directly into the yawning cage to tie the game. At the end of regular time, the two sides tied 3-3 and the game entered overtime.
Just a minute and a half into overtime, Vanisova stole the puck from Birka and slid it back into the Torrent penalty area. She passed the ball to Bolling, who called the game for Vancouver.
