Bobby Webster is considered Raptors president – “leading candidate” for basketball insiders

Current general manager Bobby Webster is considered a favorite to become the next president of the Toronto Raptors. This is according to a report by Michael Grange of Sportsnet.
Other notable candidates are said to be considered, including Chicago Bulls general manager Marc Eversley and Detroit Pistons executive Dwane Casey. Former Sacramento Kings general manager Monte McNair and Indiana Pacers president Kevin Pritchard are also in the fight. CAA assembles a list of candidates currently being considered by Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Corporation (MLSE).
The Raptors separated the road from long-time President Masai Ujiri at the end of June (shortly after the draft).
Webster was first hired by Ujiri in 2013. He used to be the deputy director of salary management in the NBA. Webster has been working at the front desk of the league since 2006.
The 40-year-old is considered a salary cap expert. Over the past few years, Ujiri has been an increasingly important figure for the Raptors.
MLSE CEO Keith Pelley said in a media a month ago that it took several weeks or months to find the right person.
Why did Webster outperform other candidates?
Webster will undoubtedly bring the level of trust needed to the fan base. He was once the guy who was chosen by Ujiri and had spent ten years with the organization. He famously planned the industry that brought Kawhi Leonard to Toronto.
If there is time and cap experts at the helm, that will be in the second apron era. If MLSEs tend to be more conservative about their team building, Webster is the one they can be confident about while also trying to send a highly competitive team.
Webster was reportedly given a year of the 2026-27 season. If he isn’t the president’s choice in the end, that could lead to an awkward hierarchy between him and his new hires ending up being president.
If Webster is promoted to president, current assistant general manager Dan Tolzman is likely to enter the current position of Webster.
