game review
As time expired in the first period, Jaden Schwartz passed the puck over the backboard and Jamie Oleksiak caught it. Oleksiak passed the ball to Ben Meyers in front of the net. He fed Ryan Winterton a pass as he skated toward the net. Winterton scored the first goal of the game on a shot from inside the scrimmage circle.
With three minutes left in the second quarter, Eli Tolvanen was on the board for tripping Jeter Greaves. Less than a minute into the penalty kick, Ryan Lindgren added to the penalty area after cross-checking Adam Fantilli. With the opportunity at 5-on-3, the Blue Jackets started to make a difference. Zach Wilenski takes a shot, but Matt Murray saves it. Sean Monahan caught the rebound in front of the net and passed it to Kirill Marchenko at the faceoff point. He passed the puck across the ice to Fantilli, who tied the game with his second shot.
At the end of the regular season, the two sides were tied and entered overtime to determine the winner. Both teams had some good chances in five minutes of three-on-three, but both Murray and Greaves kept their teams in the game. Since no one scored in overtime, a penalty shootout was required to decide the winner.
Mason Marchment and Adam Fantilli started the game for their respective sides but had both shots blocked. In the second round, Jordan Eberle’s shot was blocked, but Marchenko scored on Murray. All the pressure was on Eeli Tolvanen, whose goal kept the Kraken’s chance alive. Monaghan’s shot was saved by Murray, and the penalty shootout entered the fourth round.
Cabo Caco’s shot was again saved by Greaves. Charlie Coyle was next for Columbus, who put the puck into the top corner of the net to seal the win for the Blue Jackets.
