Blackhawks beat Ducks 5-3, snap five-game losing streak – Hockey Writers – NHL News

The Chicago Blackhawks and Anaheim Ducks face off in a matinee showdown on Sunday, November 30 at the United Center. The Ducks played six games at home before the game, winning four of those six games. The Blackhawks, meanwhile, are trying to snap a five-game losing streak.

It was the second of three games between the two clubs this season, the first being a 2-1 overtime loss by the Ducks on Oct. 19, also at the United Center. Former longtime Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville, now the Ducks’ new bench boss, is looking to win in his old barn. Petr Mrazek, another former Blackhawk, was in net for Anaheim, while Spencer Knight was the goalie for Chicago.

When all was said and done, the Blackhawks won in dramatic fashion, 5-3. Let’s review.

Ducks win first quarter

The Ducks started fast and furious, quite literally. Cutter Gauthier scored just 15 seconds off assists from Troy Terry and Leo Carlsson. Then, at the 47-second mark, Olen Zellweger did it with assists from Terry and Gauthier.

Less than a minute into the game, the Ducks took a 2-0 lead, with Gauthier and Terry already scoring two points.

To make matters worse, Anaheim scored again at 10 minutes and 25 seconds into the first quarter. Chris Kreider scored a goal at the goal to make it 3-0. This was Kreider’s 600th career point. He was assisted by Beckett Senek and Mason McTavish.

But the Blackhawks gained some life late in the first inning when they scored on a power play. Tyler Bertuzzi redirected Frank Nazar’s shot. Connor Bedard picked up the second assist.

Still, the Ducks came out strong and took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.

Blackhawks win game 2

In the second game, the Blackhawks came back with a two-on-one breakthrough. Rookie Ryan Greene scored on a very unselfish pass from Bedard. It was Green’s second goal in as many games.

Colton Dach’s power-play goal completed the comeback. He was assisted by Teuvo Travainen and defender Artem Levshunov.

Just like that, what seemed like a defeat by the Ducks turned into a 3-3 tie at the second intermission.

Blackhawks take third quarter and win

In the third period, the Ducks’ Alex Killorn appeared to score a goal while shorthanded, but the play was ruled offside and the goal was denied. With a little more than 10 minutes left in the game, Ducks netminder Mrazek looked like he had made some decision and was replaced by Ville Husso.

Shortly thereafter, Bedard took advantage of a Ducks turnover to give the Blackhawks a 4-3 lead. It was the 20-year-old’s 15th goal of the season.

But alas, he’s not done yet. The Ducks tied Husso, and with 18:05 left in the third quarter, Bedard scored an empty-net goal to bring the Blackhawks to 5-3. This is Bedard’s fourth point of the game (2 goals, 2 assists).
