Sorana Cirstea calls for return to “stolen” tennis balls in land trophy

Romanian tennis player Sorana Cirstea called for a return to the trophy she said, which was stolen from a hotel room in New York.

The 35-year-old won her third WTA singles title in her career and has won the first place since 2021 in the tennis match at the Land Championships in Cleveland on August 23.

World 57 wrote on Instagram: “Who stole my Cleveland Trophy from Room 314, please give it.”

“It has no material value, only emotional value! This will be greatly appreciated! Thank you.”

Cirstea was presented with a glass trophy the day after the start of the U.S. Open, and she continued to play for Flushing Meadows in New York.

She lost to 11th seed Karolina Muchova in the second round of singles and lost to the first round in the doubles match with partner Anna Kalinskaya.

It was a disappointing result for the couple, who won the Madrid Open on clay earlier this year.

Her trophy disappeared from the disappearance of the Fifty Sonesta Hotel, Cirstea lives in New York.

The BBC Sport has contacted the hotel owner for comment.
