Mayfield won’t practice on Fridays and is considered daily.

Tampa Bay fans were struck by news on Friday morning that QB Baker Mayfield suffered a setback Thursday. Fortunately, he received a preventive scan and ruled out significant injuries. This is a positive signal for the pirates to move forward. The 2025 regular season is more than a month away. If Mayfield needs to miss a few weeks, now is the time.
However, Mayfield is considered to be a daily routine that goes into the weekend every day. He hasn’t missed a game since the 30-year-old joined the Bucs. Mayfield is not going to let this minor hand injury bring him back. If Mayfield is not practicing on Friday, Bucs will have Kyle Trask and Connor Bazelak in QB. Trask is the second round pick for Tampa Bay in 2021.

He started with zero and only appeared in three games. Connor Bazelak is an undrafted QB in Missouri. Tampa Bay opened its 2025 season with the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1. This allowed Baker Mayfield to recover his hands for about five weeks. Mayfield threw a career-high 4,500 yards and 41 passes last season.
The Pirates are indeed scheduled to practice on Saturday. Baker Mayfield is considered everyday. We will see if he is available tomorrow. Don’t be surprised to see Bucs give Mayfield some time to rest and recover. He is their franchise QB and they need him to be in his best form in Week 1. If this involves Mayfield missing in the preseason, Tampa Bay is not afraid of him sitting down.
