Marlin Direct Luarbert Arias – MLB Trade Rumors

The Marlins have replaced the right-handed Luarbert Arias According to a report by Daniel Alvarez Montes of El Extrabase this afternoon, Triple-A Jacksonville was handed over to Triple-A. Arias had previously been designated as a mission by Miami in a series of rosters earlier this week, but the club clearly succeeded in passing the immunity.
Arias, 24, made her debut with the Marlins earlier this year. Venezuela, the Maracay product of Arias signed with Padres as an amateur and debuted in 2018. He was around the lower-level Padres organization of minors until he was taken from San Diego by Marlins during the minor league phase of Rule 5 draft 2021. He made his debut in 2022 and was good for most of the time at the solo level before enjoying a breakout season in 2023 when he released a 1.84 ERA in 58 2/3 innings between the High-A and Double-A levels.
The outstanding performance has given Arias a first call from Triple-A in 2023, and he has performed 3.23 ERA in 59 outings in the past two seasons in 86 1/3 innings. At 9.7% walk rate, the strikeout rate is 22.0%, which is what you need, but in 2024 these perimeters are better than this year’s perimeter, when he hit only 15.9% of his opponents in 15 appearances, compared to 8.5%. Regardless of these struggles, the Marlins still choose to bring Arias from Triple-A to debut in this year’s Major League Baseball. He struggled a lot in the 10 1/3 innings, capitulating the 11.32 era with a 9.1% walk rate at a 3.2% strikeout rate.
Although Arias lacks the necessary service hours to deny the task of free agents, he does continue on his record after being replaced by the Miami roster earlier this year. That means he can get into free agents early if he chooses, but either way, if he doesn’t join the 40-man squad before that, he will be awarded a minor league free agent at the end of the season. Rights will then be offered in the open market to any team interested in taking this opportunity. Given his success at Triple-A last year and the fact that he has had very little service hours, the minor league choice time left is very small, and without joining Miami’s 40-man roster, he should be a pretty attractive candidate for a free agent’s minor league contract.
