Magic agrees to expand with Paolo Banchero’s 5-year rookie Max

The Orlando Magic and Paolo Banchero have agreed to a five-year rookie Max Extension worth $239 million. ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported.
If Banchero can win incentives such as forming an all-NBA team or winning an MVP in 2025-26, that could be worth up to $287 million. The deal also includes player options for 2030-31. This is the first time since 2021 that the player option has been included in the rookie Max contract.
Banchero is the first draft pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, ahead of Chet Holmgren and Jabari Smith.
The 22-year-old had a fierce battle of 2024-25, and unfortunately the italic injury was hindered. In 46 regular season games, he averaged 25.9 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. Although the original numbers exist, they are not efficient, with two-two points, three-pointers at 32%, and free throw line at 72.7%.
However, his true 55.1 hit rate is the highest in his career.
Orlando now has all seasons with Banchero, Franz Wagner, Jalen Suggs and Desmond Bane.
Magic, Banchero hopes to take a step forward
In an Eastern Conference with a major injury, the Magic looked like a team to be aware of coming to next year.
As far as external shooting is concerned, Bain’s acquisition targets major demand. He should make a major upgrade to Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Suggs also missed a lot of time with injuries, and a healthy 2025-26 exercise will be the key to Orlando’s chances.
As insurance, the Magic went out and signed free agent point guard Tyus Jones. He should provide a stable hand when needed and excel as a beginner when needed. It also eases the development of Anthony Black, who was selected as No. 6 in 2023.
The Cleveland Cavaliers and the New York Knicks still look step by step, but the Magic hope to compete for at least a third seed.
