Murdock, 26, is the fourth player selected in the Rule 5 draft last winter. (A is the fifth pick, but Colorado passes with #2.) A brings reliefers out of the Kansas City farm system. Murdock assigned his 2024 season to him between Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha. He reached an average run of 2.22 in 24 1/3 innings in the previous level. Murdock released 3.76 ERA in Triple-A via 38 1/3 frames. He combined with a strikeout rate of 27% and a 59.7% ground percentage, despite the shocking walking rate.
6'8″ Righty broke the camp and had made his first appearance in 14 major leagues. They weren't going well as he was beaten 25 times in 17 1/3 innings. Free passes are still too problematic. Murdock walked 20 batsmen and hit 2 more of the 98 bats he faced. His ground ratio on the phone card in the minors wasn't done in the majors. Murdock's ground ball percentage and 21.4% strikeout rate of 42.6% were both good, but not enough to offset the free pass.
