Joel Embiid becomes Hall of Fame Lock – Basketball Insider

Overcome early setbacks

When the Philadelphia 76ers drafted Joel Embiid in 2014 overall, few people could predict his career. A foot injury left him alone for the first two seasons, delaying his debut until 2016. However, once on the floor, Embiid wasted very little time showing his potential.

Health issues continue to linger, but his skills are steadily developing. By 2021, Embiid has firmly participated in the conversation at the best player in basketball, integrating main scores with elite defense.

Build an elite resume

Now entering his 10th season of the game, Embiid’s work is impressive. The 76ers star collected seven All-Star nods, five all-NBA selections, two scoring champions and one MVP award. Few centers in the history of the league matched his size, skills, and consistency.

These achievements have already taken him to Springfield. As ESPN’s Zach Kram pointed out during her summer vacation for Hall of Fame candidates:

“The next one is Embiid and Gilgeous-Alexander, who is struggling due to its MVPS. DerrickRose is the only pre-retired MVP not in the Hall of Fame, and unlike Embiid and SGA, Rose has never had another all-NBA season. Such a high peak, the extended peak is the peak path to Springfield.”

Compared with recent legends

The 2025 Hall of Fame class includes Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard and the famous 2008 American “Reden Team”. Like those inductees, Embiid has shaped the basketball era in his own way. Since Shaquille O’Neal won multiple scoring titles, he has become the first center, redefining what big men can do offense.

The injury slowed his momentum, but his peak was undeniable. He dominated the perennial MVP candidate and brought Philadelphia to multiple playoffs.

Focus on the future

Last season, Embiid appeared in only 19 games, which reminds you of a constant battle with durability. Despite this, downtime still gave him a chance to reset his body. Reports show that his goal is 2026 and beyond.

Regardless of whether Embiid added a championship to his resume or not, his case on the hall already looks safe. If he continues to win honors, the conversation will shift from the speed at which he wins his position among the immortals of basketball.
