Charles Watts said Arsenal can still make breakthroughs in contract negotiations with Thomas Partey and his future remains open.
Written in his latest work Attracted by the side Watts’ column explains that if Partey needs to be replaced this summer, the Gunners can also turn to talented young defensive midfielders like Lucien Agoume.
Partey is about to leave his contract at the UAE Stadium, and it is unclear whether he is more likely to move elsewhere in this window now.
Watts said it has not been completely decided and descriptions are still open.

“Thomas Partey’s situation at Arsenal is still open,” Watts said.
“My message at the time of writing is that no final decision has been made yet and that the contract negotiations are not fully concluded.
“Obviously, the longer this delay, there is no breakthrough, then the more likely the party will continue as free agents this summer, but as far as I know, we are not at that stage yet.
“So there may still be a breakthrough in the discussion, but this needs to happen quickly because both sides want to be clear about the situation.
“If the parties do leave, then Arsenal will have to enter the market to bring in another midfielder.
“They have sorted a lot of money in Zubimendi, but I think it wouldn’t be enough if Partey followed Jorginho through the exit door this summer.
“They need someone else, maybe a young player, who can develop in the next few years.
“I saw Lucien Agoume in Sevilla as a possible goal, and that’s the kind of player I think can fit what they need.”

As a free agent, the Ghana international will certainly be a tempting opportunity, showing that he can still play in the midfield at Arsenal in the past few years.
