US Open 2025: Daniil Medvedev loses to Benjamin Bonzi after an incredible night in New York

This is not the centerpiece of Medvedev’s first entertainment night in New York.
On his way to the 2019 final, he played the role of a pantomime villain as an American fan.
He dragged the crowd with provocative post-match celebrations and interviews before winning a heroic performance in the final with Rafael Nadal’s five-game defeat.
Two years later, Medvedev received acclaim after winning his first major title by defeating Novak Djokovic and celebrating the comedy with the inspiration of a computer game.
In 2023, he argued with some supporters in a late-night fight with Chris O’Connell of Australia – but this time Medvedev ensured the crowd was behind him, trying to turn the game around with Bonzi.
Medvedev recently opened up his on-field antics in an inspiring interview with BBC Sports, describing his outburst as a “hooking the horn”.
But his reaction to his third straight Grand Slam first round loss was shocking.
Instead of a quick exit, Medvedev sat in a chair, sitting on the chair, and repeatedly knocked the racket down the metal bench holding the racket bag, destroying the racket.
Six-time Grand Slam finalists burst into tears, leaving behind SAT when Bonzi started his stadium interview.
After that, Medvedev seemed to be planning to quit the world’s top 20, saying he felt like he wanted to “finish his career” during the game.
When asked if it was over, he replied, “Not today, but when I finished my career you never know where you want to do it. Today, I’m like, ‘This is probably a great place to do it’.”
