Mets win Jeff McNeill's representative in midfield

The Metropolis lost their outfielder recently Jose Siri For tibial fractures, he has not yet been determined (but obviously large) time. Then leave Tyrone Taylor,,,,, Brandon Nemo And infielder Luisangel Acuña As three players on the roster, they have midfield experience. Of course, both Taylor and Nimmo have played a wide role in the profession. Acuña logged in 299 innings in the center, but was mainly a midfielder. Outfielder Jose AzocarHe has nearly 6,000 innings (442 professional innings) in the Center, but has not dropped in Triple-A, but not in the 40-man lineup.
While they have many candidates to help cover up Siri's absence, the Mets are clearly considering the possibility of further strengthening their center field depth. Manager Carlos Mendoza announced today Jeff McNeillThe next start during his minor league rehabilitation mission will enter the midfield (video link via SNY).
“He left today. He will be playing in Port St. Lucie tomorrow,” Mendoza said. “That's nothing new to him. He's been there before. We want to take advantage of this opportunity in the minor league. He's joined the opportunity. … We have Acuña, we have Tyrone, but we just feel like we've been there since he's now, why not take advantage of this opportunity to get him some exposure?”
McNeil does have some experience in the center, but it is short-lived at best. He recorded three major league games at that position – a total of 16 innings. He handled all six flying balls, which he had no problem. McNeil also has some sporadic midfield appearances among minors, but he has only 28 innings in total throughout his career. He certainly has other representations in a non-game environment, but that is not a familiar stance for him. McNeil has more than 2,200 innings off-field work in the lead zone between minors and the major leagues.
When asked if McNeil occasionally spends some time with the center of the major league clubs is a real consideration, Mendoza replied, “Well, we do this for a reason.” McNeil seems unlikely to install for regular midfield jobs, but after a significant injury, expanding the skills of already versatile position players is hardly harmful, especially when it can be done organically in minor league rehabilitation tasks.
McNeil missed the entire season after twisting his right lean late in spring training. The two-time All-Star and 2022 NL batting champion season is at least relative to his previous standards. McNeil has been the league average hitter in 2023, cutting a total of .257/.323/.381 in his 1120 trips in the Grand Slams over the past 1120 years.
The Metropolitan replaced McNeil, turned to Acuña and Brett Baty Handle second base in the first few weeks of the season. Buddy was excellent in spring training but started a frustrating start at second place – a position that is still very unfamiliar. The 25-year-old first-rounder was a third baseman, but started in the second game after that Mark Vientos'Last year's breakthrough. However, for at least some time in his fourth season in the Grand Slam, Buddy struggled again. His appearance was 36 sets but turned in .139/.139/.222 Slash. Despite being in the possible platoon distance, the game time rose as his own 39 plates appeared in his own small sample and hit .265/.359/.353.
