The DP World Tour is back in the only event in Scotland this week, with many Ryder Cup stars putting it into practice, and golf news will need to know everything you need to know before Thursday’s first tee.
Competition History
Alfred Dunhill’s Connection Championship may only date back to 2001, but in just two decades it has firmly established its own tour tradition. This year is the 24th edition.
The format pairs top professionals with celebrity amateurs, including the world’s three most iconic linked courses. After three rounds, those who advanced returned to the 2022 open championship venue St Andrews for a final Sunday showdown.
The field includes several Ryder Cup stars, and Tyrrell Hatton aims not only to defend his crown but also to win a record fourth victory.

During the first three days, the team rotated on three separate courses: St Andrews, Canosti and Kings Barnes.

After the third round, the top 60 professionals (and tie) and the top 20 teams are eligible for Sunday’s finale in St Andrews.

St Andrews, known as the “Old Lady” and is widely regarded as the “Golf House” and hosts an Open every five years, remains a lasting list of golfers around the world. Conditions determine everything here: Calm weather can produce very low scores, as Ross Fisher’s 2017 course record 61 proved that last year was comparable to Hatton.
The legendary “road hole” is the 17th stroke and 17th stroke, which is the most difficult challenge in the course. The last 9 points are expected to be stronger, especially between holes 11 and 17. Green is usually set to about 10 on the Stimp meter.

Nicknamed “Skin Color” the course is known for its deep pot bunker and cruel difficulties. However, for this event, it provides a chance to fight for amateurs, and it sets a little bit. Still, it’s the toughest of the three. Green usually runs at 10.5 on Stimp table.

Just seven miles from St Andrews, Kingsbarns is a modern classic designed by Kyle Phillips and opened in 2000. Wide fairways and minimal water hazards are forgiven in calm conditions, but can quickly expose teeth in the wind.
Branden Grace’s opening at the 60th place in 2012 is still a benchmark. Green is expected to run at a 9.5 rate on the stimulator.

Driving statistics rarely tell stories. 2023 champion Fitzpatrick ranked only 123rd in driving distance and 53rd in accuracy. Even Hatton, who won the title last year, only ranked 33rd and 23rd in these categories.
