Alex de Minaur kicked off his 2025 title bid with a landmark victory over local favorite Jurij Rodionov at the Erste Bank Open on Monday.

The third-seeded Australian defeated wildcard Rodionov 6-4, 6-1 at the Indoor ATP 500 to claim his 300th tour-level victory. De Minaur, who has racked up a tour-leading 38 hard-court wins this season, is only the second person born in 1999 or later to reach 300 wins, after world No. 2 Jannik Sinner.

“It’s cool. You go through the sport, you go through your career, but you don’t really have the time or a lot of options to really let something sink in,” DeMinaur said. “It’s a really cool moment, reaching 300 wins. Obviously, it seems like a long career and I’m enjoying getting to 300 wins.”

De Minaur reached the milestone in style against world number 154 Rodionov, who had a strong first set but crucially conceded two break points in the fifth game. The Austrian’s groundstrokes became increasingly erratic in the second game and De Minaur eventually cruised to an 80-minute victory inside the Vienna Arena.

De Minaur will next face either Camilo Hugo Carabelli or another home wildcard, Filip Misolic, in the Austrian capital in the second round. The Australian is on track to qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals for the second consecutive year: De Minaur is currently ranked seventh at the PIF ATP Live Event in Turin, just 125 points behind sixth-placed Ben Shelton.

Eighth seed Alexander Bublik also advanced to the second round in Vienna. According to Infosys ATP statistics, the Kazakhstani blasted 12 aces in a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Alejandro Tabilo, scoring 91% of his first-serve points (31/34). After winning his first Lexus ATP meeting in just 68 minutes, world number 16 Bublik will battle either Francesco Cerundolo or Alex Michelsen for a quarter-final spot.

In other matches on Monday, Brandon Nakajima beat Luciano Dadri 6-2, 7-5 to set up a meeting with fifth seed Karen Khachanov or Talon Grikspur, while Mateo Arnaldi eased past Alexander Kovacevic 7-5, 6-4. Italy’s Analdi will face second seed and former champion Alexander Zverev or Jacob Fearnley in the second round.
