Twins cut the reconnaissance department

According to Athletics, the twins have canceled four of five jobs among professional scouts. Ken Compton, John Manuel, Keith Stohr and Jose Marzan will not sign contracts at the end of the season. This will make Wesley Wright the only remaining professional scout at the club.

As Hayes mentioned in the article, cutting professional scouts is a trend within a range. He took the Cubs as an example, linking to a November 2024 article by Sahadev Sharma and Patrick Mooney, a detail of the sport, which is the club’s turn to more analytics and rely less on traditional scouting. Hayes wrote that in recent years, the twins have relied on video like the Cubs, and traveled much less.

But, even in that case, the Cubs threw their professional scouting department to seven employees. That’s more than five of the twins this year before down to one person moving forward.

Decisions rely more on analysis and less on scouts are decisions that often debate in baseball, at least to the Moneyball era, and certainly beyond that. But, Hayes said scaling down the twins in the department is about cutting costs, which could be ominous for the club’s future.

Recently, money has been hovering around the twins in many ways. The club has not renewed its regional sports network with Diamond Sports Group (now known as Main Street Sports) after 2024. This puts Major League Baseball in charge of the club’s broadcast in 2025. These leagues are believed to have fewer clubs than a healthy RSN protocol.

Anyway, the club enters 2025, hoping to compete, and they have done this for a while. The twins competed in the playoffs in the early months of the current season, but as the trade deadline approached. Many expect the club to trade the upcoming free agents with the goal of competing again in 2026, but the sell-off is ultimately more obvious than expected. In addition to the upcoming free agents, they also sell controllable players Jhoan Duran and Griffin Jax.

From a financial standpoint, the most famous transaction is the one sent Carlos Correa Go to the Astronaut. Although the twins ate some money in the exchange, they moved most of his contract away from long-term books. By 2028, he owed about $103.4mm of trade, and the twins stayed on the hook for 33mm. There are more marginal financial notes. For example, including twins Randy Dobnak Send in a transaction Chris Paddack For the Tigers, it seems to be a savings of about $2mm they owe Dobnak.

A few weeks after the deadline is another notable development. The Pohlad family, who has been pursuing a franchise, decided to take the club out of the market. They are looking for about $1.7 billion, despite reported debts of more than 425 mm. Instead of finding anyone willing to satisfy the asking price, they sold minority stakes to a new pair of political parties. Cash from selling these shares to new partners will be reportedly helpful in paying off debts, although it is unclear to what extent. Hayes noted that the new owner has not yet received official approval from Major League Baseball.

As winter begins, the club has not yet been confirmed to advance in the 2026 season. They do target many Major League Baseball talents at the deadline, including Ultraman James,,,,, Alan Roden,,,,, Mick Alber and Taj Mahal Bradley. It can be said that this shows that the club hopes to remain relevant next year, but the continued one-cent fabrication is not a good sign.

If further costs are prioritized, it will probably increase like Pablo López or Joe Ryan Available this winter. Lopez earns 21.5 mm per year to 2027. Trading him may save a lot of money for the twins, but it will still bring a lot of appeal to other clubs. Ryan is still in the arbitration, more like bargaining. He earned just 3mm this year and will raise his salary in the two upcoming campaigns before he plans to arrive in free agents after 2027.

Players like it Ryan Jeffers,,,,, Bailey Ober,,,,, Trevor Larnach and Reus Lewis Also in the ARB year, if this is the path to the twins’ fall, it may be a candidate for a cost-reducing move. Byron Buxton The club is another big salary commitment next to López, despite having a no-trade clause and saying he wants to be a lifelong twin.
