After quitting his role as LIV, a name golfer really thought of Greg Norman

Golf legend Greg Norman officially left Liv Golf and was replaced as the league’s CEO eight months later.

The 70-year-old has played a major role behind the rise of the Saudi-backed disconnected league.

Norman worked with the organization for four years and helped attract several major champions on the PGA Tour, a controversial move that shocked the foundations of golf.

During his time with Liv, Norman had a public dispute with Rory McIlroy, who was described as “brainwashing” and Tiger Woods, who he considered as the “mouthpiece” of the PGA Tour.

The two-time open champion was removed from his post as CEO and was replaced by Scott O’Neil in mid-January.

Eight months from the big change at the top, Norman has now confirmed that he has left Liv.

Norman wrote on social media: “After four unforgettable years, I officially closed my time with Liv Golf, and had no reflection on anything but gratitude, pride and achievement.

“Together we have built a sport that has changed the game globally. We have created opportunities for players and fans and expanded the golf ecosystem. We have globalized the game to globalization and expanded the golf influence to fans around the world.

“We brought entertainment, innovation and private equity into golf (including participating in the PGA Tour) to position the sport as an asset class. It’s an incredible chapter and I’m proud of our achievements.

“What I’m committed to doing and still being the right thing to golf, players and fans never give up.

“Thank you for everyone who has been with me during this time. I will always look back on this time.

“As for the next…stay attention! The exciting moments ahead. Keep on with the next adventure.”

Norman has too many “bad blood”

Norman may have played a big role after Liv’s initial growth, but people like Jon Rahm are happy to see the top changes in the league.

When responding to O’Neal’s takeover as CEO, Ram said: “Unfortunately, there may be some too much blood between Greg and the governing body.

Ram added: “Even if Greg is great to me, I think someone like Scott – a little outside the world of golf, but very much in the world of sports – makes him the perfect match for work.

“I talked to Scott for a while during the commercial shoot and based on what I talked to him and his vision and his passion, I think he will have a very positive impact on LIV.”

Liv Golf recently completed their third season, with Rahm winning individual titles for the second consecutive year.

Liv’s 2026 season will begin in February, with Saudi Arabia hosting its first event.
