Ranking

Atte Joki is sure to see a couple’s prospects in the 2025 NHL Draft, showing strong performances over the past seasons. Like many other Finns in the Hlinka Gretzky Championship, Joki worked hard to make the offensive progress. In fact, he had only one point in the first three games, and he didn’t show the hockey what he could do until the team hit seventh. After four points against Switzerland in four games, he finished with five points and caused anger from some of the scouts who had further in the draft season.

In the draft, his ceiling is not far from the higher players, and if he intends to take his game to the next level, Joki will have to hone his success and focus on those areas of developing the game. His skating is average. He lacks the overall explosiveness of the first step, so his game needs more. He does have a hard time creating opportunities with hockey, but it may be his willingness to fish out on the board and in tough areas, which makes him feel ideal for the team.

His transition game is not particularly powerful, and he struggles to escape opponents’ players. That said, he has a physical aspect to his game that allows him to make an impact and be proud of it. Positionally speaking, he understands his role in the offensive zone – winning the hockey battle and becoming a net lead. But he isn’t afraid to enter dirty areas, get a puck or release the puck with his size and strength. He has a positive stick on defense, which proves to be good for him.

While he still has major areas to clean up his game and develop it into the NHL ready, Joki is a player who can be interested in the draft if they are looking for a quality center that can play in the bottom of the game.

Other draft information

Atte Joki – NHL Draft

Still likely to be seen as a role player on the team he plays, Joki could fall into the fourth round. His upside is still a question mark, and despite the possible offensive outbreak, he is still a team that may sit down and wait for them to be interested. As a high-end possibility, he could see himself entering the last few spots of the third round, but that was the best case scenario. It’s very likely that he’s a player we can see in the fourth or fifth round.

quotation marks

“Joki’s skating lacks the explosiveness and agility of the NHL team drooling today. He has some effort in progress, and his high-end speed is not particularly impressive. This limitation affects his ability to create in the transition and he can fight regional contestants.” – Steven Graves, McKeen’s hockey

“Joki is a large center that does a great job of controlling the middle of the ice, but doesn’t stand out in any way. When he engages in net free throws and hockey battles, he effectively uses his size and can form a hockey with an effective check. He won’t carry too much hockey, but when he does, he can use the hockey well, and can use his picture shielding.” – Jacob Roth, Future Considerations

NHL Potential

As we mentioned, there is still a lot of need for Joki’s game, and there are too many questions about his overall cap. As of now, he has brought the tools he brought to the table, and he is a capable center that can crack the NHL roster at some point. That said, I won’t hold my breath because it will happen soon. When he does, look for his roster as the bottom six players who can bounce around the lineup to fill a little bit.

Risk and Reward Analysis

Risk – 4/5, Reward – 2.5/5

Fantasy Hockey Potential

Offense – 6/10, Defense – 5/10
