Red Sox chooses Robert Stock

The Red Sox announced this afternoon that they chose Robert Stock. Right-handed Cooper Chriswell As Ian Browne of MLB.com reported, minors chose to make room on the event lineup. The space to free up inventory in the 40-man lineup is right-handed Josh Winckowskihe was recalled to the Grand Slam and placed on the 60-day injury list with right elbow flexor pressure.

The 35-year-old stock has joined the Red Sox bullpen for the second time this year. He had previously appeared in the club to throw two innings earlier this year, but was eliminated from a 40-man squad shortly thereafter. Back in 2009, the Cardinals’ second round draft pick was unable to serve as a Padres member in 2018 until its debut in 2018. In his first year of professional he posted a dominance with a hit rate of 2.50 ERA and 2.71 FIP in his 39 2/3 innings, but has never reached these heights since. Over the next three seasons, he bounced between San Diego, Boston, Chicago and Queens, but did not get much in 33 frames between 2019 and 2021 with a 7.36 ERA (5.50 FIP).

After the 2021 season, the stock became the starter of KBO League’s Doosan Bears in 2022. Stocks finally returned to this year’s small league deal with the Red Sox, where he scored a 3.09 ERA in Triple-A’s 55 1/3 innings, plus he’s in a professional short position. Now, he will be in charge of helping fill the gap in Red Sox pitchers and maybe providing some time for the bullpen club.
