Liverpool bids for Wirtz as Reds hopes to print club record label for Leverkusen Playmaker

Liverpool reportedly raised Florian Wirtz’s offer to £113 million as signing Bayer Leverkusen’s offensive midfielder intensified.

If successful, Red’s latest reported bid – the package guarantees Bundesliga Club’s £100 million plus an additional component of £13 million – would be a club record deal, but it’s still below Leverkusen’s £126 million asking price.

Leverkusen recently appointed former Manchester United boss Erik Ten to replace Xabi Alonso, who rejected a £109 million bid from the Premier League champion last weekend but appears willing to negotiate further in the interests of Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

Wirtz made it clear that he was eager to finish Anfield. The proposed deal will be more than a distance, which is the £85 million Liverpool payment brought from Benfica in June 2022.

However, the £113 million offer is still not cheaper than the £115 million UK transfer record fee paid by Chelsea in 2023 for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo.

Wirtz, who spent his entire high school career at Leverkusen and played a key role in the club’s unbeaten league campaign in 2023-24, was once again a great performance in Germany’s top flight last semester.

The 22-year-old scored 10 goals and contributed 12 assists in 31 games as his side failed to retain its Bundesliga title and finished second in Bayern Munich.

Wirtz also finished seventh in his seventh international goal for Germany in Wednesday’s 2-1 National League semi-final against Portugal.
