Orioles will not have a first baseman Ryan Mountcastle Imaging revealed 8-12 weeks after his right hamstring pressure level 2, interim manager Tony Mansolino told reporters (including MLB.com’s Jake Rill). Baltimore puts him on the 10-day injury list and recalls Coby Mayo last week. Mountcastle’s injury was so serious that when the team needed to create a 40-man lineup, he would eventually be transferred to the 60-day IL.

Mountcastle had only two home runs in 200 sets, hitting .246/.280/.348. These will be comprehensive career numbers. Mount Castle has been slightly better than the average thug for most of his five-year Major League Baseball career. The .271/.308/.425 show last season represents his overall work.
This likely made him a trade candidate. Even the short end of the schedule is a return after the July 31 deadline. It is possible to trade injured players, but it is difficult for Baltimore to find interest between the first few months and long absences. Mountcastle’s salary is 6.787mm, which will exceed the five-year service threshold. He will be eligible for another arbitration next winter, but the estimated $7mm+ figure makes him a non-candidate. This will be especially true if the recovery extends to the backend of the timeline and continues it into September.
