NHL 2025 Offseason Trade Bait List – Hockey Writer –

The UFA class may be weak in the offseason, especially after the recent signings of Brock Nelson, Kyle Palmieri and Yanni Gourde. But that could make the trade market stronger, as salary caps rise to $95.5 million and many teams are looking to improve their roster. Summary from Daily Confrontation, SportsNet and Athletes and other sources (Excerpt from ‘NHL Offseason Trade Commission: Summer top goal from Kreider to Rossi to Ehlers – Track and Field, 5/30/2025)let’s look at some of the players that can be traded in the next few weeks.
Talent available through trade
The buzz of potential trade candidates seems to be near JJ Peterka and Marco Rossi. Buffalo has reported on turmoil, players are dissatisfied with the lack of progress in the Saber, and Peterka may be one of the players who are not satisfied with his situation. He finished the game with 27 goals and 68 points last season and will be upgraded to the top six of any team.

Peterka isn’t the only saber that could be moving. Bowen Byram’s name has suddenly appeared on the Trade Commission, and as rumors grow, more and more names may appear in the coming weeks.
As for Rossi, he was at least not dissatisfied with his situation. But the Minnesota Wild doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to pay him a seven-year, $49 million contract. He will score 24 goals, 60 points in the season, and should be of great interest as many teams are looking to add second-tier centers.
Erik Karlsson leads the players’ talent. The Pittsburgh Penguin is in rebuild/rebuild mode and may move his $10 million cap to give himself more financial flexibility and draft capital. Although Karlsson does have expensive caps, his total salary drops to $9 million next season, down to $7.5 million in 2026-27. This may make him more attractive to the suitor.
Jason Robertson and his potential availability caused a lot of buzz as the Dallas Stars had only $4.5 million in block space. He hasn’t joined any Trade Commission yet, and I would be surprised if this is the way for stars to free up the block space. For now, he stays under our board, but he can show up in future versions.
So did Martin Necas, who popped up in Nick Kypreos’ SportsNet Trade Commission. Kypreos reports that NECAS is not satisfied with his situation in Colorado and he can seek to explore other options. Before becoming UFA, he had a year left in his contract with a cap of $6.5 million, so there was some team control. I would take it with a grain of salt, but if the smoke looks true, he is another name we can add to our list.
Currently, we will start our trade bait list with 15 players. As we approach the NHL draft and free agent approach, there will certainly be more added in the coming days and weeks.
