Leeds United is reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope to prepare for life in the Premier League.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, whites identified the pope as a potential summer transfer target, part of their efforts to strengthen the team’s key areas.

After Leeds got promoted from the championship, his determination to avoid a shorter race in the top flight and strengthen the goalkeeper’s position has become one of their top priorities, especially after Illan Meslier’s poor performance.

Leeds United want to increase quality

Manager Daniel Farke is passionate about building a solid spine for the team, and experienced Premier League goalkeepers like Pope may be crucial.

The Pope has been the go-to goalkeeper since his arrival from Burnley in 2022.

However, as Newcastle continues to pursue Burnley’s highly regarded shooter James Trafford, his future at St. James Park is now uncertain.

Hipies initially agreed to bring Trafford to August last year, and this summer’s successful move for young British goalkeepers could pave the way for the pope’s exit.

Although the contract was not signed until June 2026, the Pope could be seen as a surplus if Newcastle secures Trafford and shifts its focus to long-term reconstruction.

This potential opening has been a reminder of multiple clubs, and Leeds is understood to be one of the most interested parties.

The Pope not only brings a top experience, but also an international genealogy. His commanding performance, shooting ability and Premier League knowledge will make him perfect for newly promoted teams, aiming to build himself in the department.

Any potential deal will depend on Newcastle’s movement in the transfer market and Leeds’ financial flexibility.

Leeds is also interested in the moves of Manchester City star James McAtee this summer.
