Global Edition

Elementary students on the Causeway Coast and the Glens area of Northern Ireland are experiencing golf through the development of a new “open” program.
R&A, a collaboration between Golf Ireland and the Golf Foundation. A series of golf camp workshops are created specifically for elementary school students who train in the Community Golf Leader Award.
Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councilor Ciarán McQuillan, who recently hosted a charity golf day in Portstewart Golf Club, said: “Council is delighted to offer this programme to local primary schools, and we hope the young people who participate really enjoy this in the lead up to the Open. I’m sure we will see stars of the future as the pro golfers pass on tips for starting out in the sport.”
Following the school’s plan, many “mini public” golf events will be held in the area around the Royal Portrait Golf Club, with venues participating in the 153rd Open Championships including one on June 11 at Bushfoot Golf Club in Portballintrae, another at Bushfoot Golf Club in Portballintrae, and another at Ballyreagh Golf Course on June 17 at Ballyreagh Golf Course on June 17 to start a competitive scene.
Councilman McQuillan added: “The Council’s sports and welfare team has provided an excellent program for local children who are open this summer, and who knows, we may discover the next Rory McIlroy on the North Coast!”
