Reopening date is scheduled for refurbishment at Trump Turmberry – Golf News

Trump Turmberry’s iconic Ailsa course is the highest-ranked permanent fixture for golf courses around the world and will reopen on June 1.

Since last October, when renowned architect Martin Ebert first reimagined in 2015, renowned architect Martin Ebert returned to the Ayrshire coast for a £1m renovation, one of the world’s greatest link courses.

AILSA will reopen on June 1 as membership, local residents and booking rounds, and new bookings will be available online on July 1.

Hole changes

The latest changes are titled the seventh and eighth holes, and the first nine holes stretched with keys in the spectacular par 3, one of the most shots of golf in the shadow of the famous turn-roaming lighthouse.

The 5-7-pole putter surface has been moved from an old position of about 50 yards inland to a new location in the roughline, creating one of the most dramatic greens in the British Isles.

Meanwhile, the eighth hole (Page 4) benefits from a new T-shirt box that straightens the fairway and eliminates previous blind shots, thus improving the visual appeal of the hole. A bunker to the right of the old fairway has been replaced by a new sand trap on the left to better fit the new alignment.

Trump’s seventh and eighth holes

“In the new seventh hole, we wanted to take advantage of Turnberry’s amazing position by turning the green right to the coastal edge. There are not many links to the green on the edge of the cliff – so that’s very special in itself.

“For eight holes, it makes sense to move the T-shirt to the right and produce a better hole. With the new alignment, the T-shirt’s shot will be improved, and the hole from the first to the last makes the hole visually amazing.”

Other improvements

To accompany the major changes in these holes, other notable enhancements have been made, including the new banking behind Greens 12 and 15, changes have been made to the Tee Box updates for holes 13 and 14.

Nic Oldham, general manager of Trump Turmberry, added: “We are always looking for ways to improve Trump Turmberry’s entire product. This includes AILSA, and no one is better than Martin Ebert when it comes to taking this course to the next level.

“We look forward to welcoming guests back to experience the best iterations of this historic course, including the Seventh Hole (now one of the most scenic and exciting vegetables in the UK), and the much-improved new consistency of the Eighth Hole.”

AILSA is the host of the Open four times – 1977, 1986, 1994 and 2009 – which first led to the famous “Sun Duel” between Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus.
In addition to curating the renovation institution that promoted AILSA to a decade ago, Ebert is also responsible for the design of Turnberry’s other champion layout, Robert The Bruce, which has another champion layout that joins Gold Digest for the first time this year. Both courses are complemented by ARRAN, the pitch of “Wee Links” and the state-of-the-art golf college.

Trump Turmberry’s Golf Academy has also opened with the most advanced track and field 11 Bay Range and Frontier Track and Field Simulator of the month and the state-of-the-art track and field athletes next to the new Academy Café.
