Golf Business News – Tiger Grand Slam Story Wins Golf Book of the Year Award

One book offers the inside story of Tiger Woods’ 2000-2001 wins the 2000-2001 era when he won all four major titles at the same time and won the Golf Book of the Year at the 2025 Charles Tyrwhitt Sports Book of the Year Award.

Judge the group award for the Golf of the Year, which received welcome rewards as its own category after a prolonged absence, including golf writer and AGW secretary Matt Cooper; golf influencer David Jones (British Golf Lady); Emma Ballard, former editor of Women and Golf; Philip Cotton, CEO of Nicklaus; and Scott MacPherson, golf course architect and author.

Matt Cooper writes about the jury’s decision on Golf365.com: “We were all agreed that the six books fell into three distinct camps. 'Open Links' and 'Golf is Hard' were both more light-hearted in one sense, while both also featured the harsh reality of playing golf for a living. 'Golf War$' and 'LIV and Let Die' both tell the story of what happened when the fire in Greg Norman's belly had Saudi oil poured on it. The civil war that broke out was dynamite for writers, and both Carter and Shipnuck absolutely nailed the story, not the author, except for lawyer meetings and outsider speculation, despite a lot of coverage and excellent storytelling, it also rarely happens.

“The final two books, 'Seve Ballesteros's Touch of Class' and 'The Tiger Slam', both dealt with a distinct period in the lives of two of golf's greatest players. Kenny Reid's book concentrates on the 1984 Open, which Ballesteros famously won ahead of even-more famously celebrating on the final green, while Kevin Cook's book tells the story of the capture, by Tiger Woods, of all four major champions at the same time across two seasons – Like Carter and Shipnuck, Cook has a great story, and he also won gossip as he told Tiger.

Emma Ballard and Chris Hollins presented Ebury Spotlight representatives the 2025 Golf Book of the Year, the publisher of the Tiger Grand Slam by Kevin Cook

Judge Emma Ballard wrote about the review process for women and golf, adding: “Choosing a winner is not easy. From the legendary victory of the game to the ordeals of today’s professionals, each book offers a fascinating storytelling. We were impressed by Dominic Holland’s public connection, and each hole in the fictional open championship final held in Muirfield. We have awarded this honor.

“While the current turmoil in men’s professional golf has dominated headlines and two finalists this year, it is a feat 25 years ago and gains real insight from the ropes, after a lot of deliberation, after careful consideration, Kevin’s Tiger Slam saw Kevin’s work in Kevin’s title, and finally shaped it out in a vivid narrative.”
