U.S. Open: Arthur Ashe Stadium is remodeled as part of a $800 million renovation plan

The American Tennis Association announced that Arthur Ashe Stadium – the U.S. Open’s showcase court – will be part of a $800 million renovation project at Flushing Meadows.
USTA describes the proposed work of the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center as “the largest single investment in the history of the United States' openness.”
It includes a plan to increase the capacity of the Arthur Ashe Stadium by about 2,000, which currently has 23,771 and is the largest tennis arena in the world.
The stadium will receive a new main entrance with an internal facility for fans to modernize.
Further plans include expansion of the new Player Performance Center in Flushing Meadows, indoor and outdoor warm-up areas.
USTA intends to fund the renovation project itself – stages between competitions to minimize disruption – and hopefully complete in 2027.
“The project allows us to maintain the biggest stage of tennis – Arthur Ashe Stadium – which was built 25 years ago and modernized in a way that will be set in the next 25 years,” said Lew Sherr, CEO and Executive Director of USTA.
