Scottie Scheffler leads PGA champions 2025 after impressive third round at Quail Hollow Golf Club in North Carolina
ask: You can talk to us via hole 14, which is what you want to do, and if you don't, what do you want to do?
Scottie Scheffler: Yes, I mean, I'm trying to hit a beautiful 3-wood. I don't know if it's enough to get into the green. I know it's just the green front which is also a good place. It's really nice to stand out, without a lot of spins. I don't know if it will get there because the left turn is on the left and I've played a tough draw and usually if you pull it into that wind it will disappear a little bit of yards.
Excellent low-spin draw came out and really solid, lucky to be able to stand up on the green. Yes, I performed the shot from that distance. Did I execute it thinking I hit two feet or anything? I mean, when you're at 300 yards, there's a little luck involved, but overall, I've completely executed the shot I want.
ask: At some point you are lying on top with Bryson and Rahm and then landing behind. Do you want to pay attention to this or just want to make as many birds as possible?
Scottie Scheffler: I'm trying to post the best scores that I can shoot today, and that's what I care about there. There are many rankings. So I think you sometimes see where the guys are, but that has no effect on my gameplay or approaching shooting.
ask: How big are the two rebounds after the last nine bogeys?
Scottie Scheffler: They really matter. I mean, especially after the bogey at 13, responding in the way I was 14, it was a very tough shot. That's a hole and the scores will vary. It's big, depending on how you type that photo. I was lucky enough to hit a good ball there and make a nice eagle that gave me the last few holes and took advantage of more opportunities at the end.
ask: So many victory majors are necessary to avoid complex mistakes and then avoid big mistakes. Just like you look at the toughest hole of the day, you hit a pleasant shot; 18, the T-shirt shot in the ion and you hit another good iron. How do you describe your ability to stay calm in chaos without being overwhelmed by it?
Scottie Scheffler: That's a good question. I think I'll do my best to focus on executing the lens, and things that you can't control. I can't control what other people are doing. I can't control the gusts of wind. When the ball hits the green, I can't control the ball's reaction. All I can do is try to hit the shots I want to hit. That's why I focus on it there.
Sometimes it's better than other days. Today is a day that works well, and no other days. Ultimately, I’ve been proud of my battles over the last three days and look forward to tomorrow’s challenges.
ask: In short, how do you do it? How did you go back from three to three to the nearest challenger?
Scottie Scheffler: I mean, I execute it very well. After 11 holes and 11, I feel like I have shot a lot of very good shots. 13 I got a weird gust of wind and then hit a poor bunker, but other than that, I felt like my back was really good, hit the shot I was trying to hit and was able to get some results from it.
The last two birdies are sure to be two extra shots. I mean, I think these holes hit on PAR, so I definitely stole a few photos there and at the end of the round, it was a nice motivation.
ask: You make it look so simple. I wonder what the third major title meant to you and your family at the age of 28?
Scottie Scheffler: That means a lot. You know, these games are very important to us, you have a chance to win big games in your life, any game in any game, tomorrow I have a great opportunity to go there and try to win the golf tournament. But that will take another very good round. There are a lot of great players chasing me on the rankings, someone will have a good round depending on where I'm going, and there's another really good round and ending the game. ask: It feels like scratching it on a swing when you talk to us in the last few days. What do you find today or how comfortable it feels?
Scottie Scheffler: I definitely think I've played much better today. There are definitely a lot on the fairway, so it will definitely drive the ball better. Be honest and honest. I just found the correct sequence today and it's really good to see my shot. Very well done. I had myself posted a very good score on the golf course yesterday, and today I just took advantage of some opportunities to post a lot of numbers.
ask: At the green miles, play a bunch of really good shots. Which one do you describe as the best in that stretch?
Scottie Scheffler: I actually scored 16 iron lenses that were probably the most challenging. I was kind of – the right foot pin, sometimes facing down, sometimes high, you almost want it to be helping or hurting. It's really hard when it dies directly. I shot that iron shot really well, and I was actually on the side slope. I think this is probably one of the best shots I've ever shot today. Just touch the way I want and give myself a nice bird look.
ask: You are not a person known for many course emotions. Can you bring us to your reaction when you were 18 years old?
Scottie Scheffler: Yes, I don't usually show too much emotion. I don't know how much I've shown there. I really don't think about what I'm doing.
I just felt like I had two really good shots there and stuffed the ball into the hole, which wasn't easy to put it on the green. And being able to take advantage of the opportunity, I think that is – no matter where the emotion comes from, it feels like a big part of this round, and can complete the whole round the right way. Yes, very good.
ask: The last three holes were hard-working. Do you think – I think, first of all, you are going to describe the 16, what numbers and clubs do you have there?
Scottie Scheffler: I think I have 198 and I hit 7 irons. That was a little on the mountain, maybe six were left, only 192.
ask: Because they perform so hard, do you hope that if you perform, will you give yourself a birdie chance or will you enjoy the reward?
Scottie Scheffler: Well, I think you have to execute these holes well to get the bird look on those holes. You can hit a good shot twice the windy way, and ultimately not with the appearance of a good bird and the challenge of the hole.
But all I have to do is focus on my execution and I can make some good shots.
ask: You are one of the best putters in the world this season. I’m curious about how many jobs you have been in the past two or three years, and how many jobs you have when you feel comfortable with it?
Scottie Scheffler: There is a lot of work in every aspect of the game. I've never been a person who focuses on a single aspect. Sometimes, maybe throughout 2023, I can say I'm working hard on too much pressure to be perfect there. I'm a very competitive person and sometimes I'm no longer successful and that makes me more excited to solve it.
But golf is not a game where you can force things. If you are playing sports like football or basketball, you can force things based on adrenaline, or push people away or anything else. Golf, I think it's much more patience than you think of this sport than other sports, especially during the 72-hole tournament, which I think is more patience.
