As Utah becomes more competitive in 2024-25 and finishes 19th in the NHL, it's the organization's first time since the 2021 draft. Until Utah hit the gold medal and won the second draw in the 2025 NHL Draft Lottery, which made them the fourth pick, moving them from No. 14, initially expected to pick them there.
Before the raffle draw, Utah had a 1.5% chance of winning the lottery and improving in the draft. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that most of their time is spent looking at players expected to draft midway through the first round. However, with what is unlikely to happen, Utah’s target list will change completely.
Early simulation draft consensus
Following the lottery draft, numerous media have provided mock drafts for the 2025 NHL entries. Using these results, I established a consensus to determine which players are most likely to be selected in this draft.

Almost all media agree that Matthew Schaefer and Michael Misa will be the first two players on the board at this year’s draft, let’s take a look at the prospect of third to seventh in this class, with one of the Mammoths likely to be part of.
Porter Martone – Total attachment level: 3.8
Porter Martone is an 18-year-old from Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. He played for three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). His first season was separated between Sarnia Sting and Mississauga Steelheads, who spent the next two seasons at Steelheads, still in Mississauga, and his most recently at Brampton after the Steelheads relocated in 2024.
During his three seasons in the OHL, Martone has made great progress in his development and has increased his points production by 0.5 in the second and third seasons.

Martone, 6-foot-2, weighs 208 pounds, has been compared with Steelheads general manager James Richmond and Corey Perry and with Brady Tkachuk, the director of TSN scouting Craig Button. With Marton, his offensive skills are obvious. He has a good view of Ice and is good at attracting defenders to create a vacancy for him for teammates. He has a heavy shot, quick release and crafty hand in a narrow area, all the tools one needs to succeed on the next level.
Hockey writer's His own Peter Baracchini also noted that Martone “plays a physically strong hockey brand that always plays a big step in the offensive zone, puts opponents’ skin into trouble, mixes it together and makes a living in front of the net. He doesn’t radiate his body whenever he has a chance.”
Martone's skating is an area he must work on before he has to see his full potential at the next level. For now, this won't hurt him. But if he can add some speed and speed to his game, then the sky is the limit of this kid. Martone is perfect for Mammoths, and they want to add size and physical condition to the lineup. His offensive upward aspect will be seen as a benefit for them. I guess the mammoth is praying to hockey, which is the fourth gliding hockey god.

James Hagens – Consensus Level: 4
James Hagens is from Hauppauge, New York, USA. He played four times with the U.S. National Team, had twice played for the Under-17 team, and recently, when the U.S. won the gold medal in the 2025 World Youth Championship.
Hagens is about to average score per game in an impressive freshman season in Boston College, which stands out from the 2025 Men's Division I Hockey Championship Championship. His last line looks like this.

Before the 2024-25 NHL season kicked off, Hagens ranked highest in Button's draft rankings, who compared him to Anze Kopitar's captain of the Los Angeles Kings, who said “he can control the game from every area of the ice.” Although his stock has fallen slightly throughout the season, Hagens is still regarded as the top five talent in the class, and recently he compared it to Jack Hughes from Hockey writer's Baracchini.
Hagens is seen as an elite organizer with a great vision and he stands out. Hagens' concern is his figure. If he continues to play the central position, he is 5-foot-10 and 176 pounds, which is why it's hard for me to see Button's comparison with Kopitar, which is 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds Kopitar. However, whether he continues to play in the middle or moves to the wings, his elite vision of offense and excellent play makes Hagens an elite prospect.
Given his similarities with other players on the roster, I don't think Hagens is an ideal candidate for the fourth-leading Mammoth. But he is dangerous in a hurry and I won't be shocked to see Utah after seeing the number of rapid offensives they used during the inaugural season.

Anton Frondell – Consensus Level: 5.2
Given how Rendel played for the Florida Panthers in the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs, this is not confusing with Anton Lundell, a player who might be fair. Born in Trångsund, Sweden, Anton Frondell is now playing among hockey players, the second highest league in Sweden.
In 2023-24, Frondel quickly advanced to Sweden. Starting from the J18 region, Sweden is the highest quality league in Sweden under the age of 18, Frondel scored 10 points in four matches before scoring 39 points in 29 matches after jumping to the J20 Nationell, the highest junior hockey level in Sweden. He entered Sweden’s first nine professional matches and scored 2023-24 in the 2023-24 match, where he worked hard to find his foothold.
Frondell eventually started the 2024-25 hockey season at J20 Nationell, where he played 10 games and then returned to the hockey player, where he scored in close numbers, much lower than the North American Junior and College League scored, where our other prospects were played here. In a reaction to the Mammoth Champion Lottery and won the fourth pick Hockey writer Recommended Frondell is very suitable for mammoths “Thanks to his high hockey IQ and ability to play in all three areas”. Sportsnet's Jason Bukala, formerly director of the Florida Panthers' reconnaissance department, added that he believes Frondell is “the most elite pure shooter in the draft class.”
With the behemoth lacking offensive production in the center position, players like Frondell are expected to hit and play all-out defensively in the near future. Given the recent history of the Mammoth drafting players from overseas, I think Frondel is tall on the Mammoth’s draft board.

Caleb Desnoyers – Consensus Level: 6.6
The product of St-Hyacinthe in Quebec, Canada, Caleb Desnoyers have just been alive in the Quebec Ocean Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and the Montcon Wildcats and the QMJHL playoffs, still alive in the QMJHL playoffs, fighting for the Gilles-Courteau Tropher Tropher Tropher and the recordings of CANAD CAPKEY CHAL CAUCKEY (CHL) (
The Desnoyers have dominated this season, averaging 1.5 points per game in the QMJHL's regular season and now scored 30 points in 17 playoffs. He scored the highest in the QMJHL playoffs and was four games less than Rimouski Océanic's Jacob Mathieu, who trailed the Desnoyers by three-pointer.
The Desnoyers and Wildcats are now leading 3-1 over Océanic, with two wins from the Gilles-Courteau trophy. Although Desnoyers is still increasing numbers, let's take a look at his junior high school career and see how his production develops.

Hockey writer's Justin Giampietro describes Desnoyers as “the best hockey IQ in the class, a super smart and skilled passer, both in the offensive zone and outside of the rush). Desnoyers is everything a team looks for in a two-way center. His size and speed can play 200 feet of games. He also understands defensive tasks and is rarely tied. While Plus/Sionus isn’t the best measure of a player’s defensive ability, his 51 ratings in the QMJHL this season strongly suggests that he has a significant impact on the defensive end.
Desnoyers has all the tangible objects that can make him successful at the next level, and as he continues to develop, the areas he needs to improve will be easy to improve. Despite being 6-foot-2, he is only 172 pounds. Since he is only 18 years old, his framework will soon fill up once he has obtained a professional coach and as he develops his “man” power. Many people think that he also needs to work hard on shooting ability, which is another aspect of the game, which is quite coachable. But despite these weaknesses, I wouldn't be shocked if Utah had a Desnoyers above Hagens on the draft board because they needed a two-way center with high offensiveness.

Selective mammoth
The Mammoths were lucky enough to win the NHL Draft Lottery and rose in the draft, and they were lucky enough to happen in the year when the Mammoth needed improvement, which was the elite talent of the year.
With Utah’s star players on the smaller side, you might think that Mammoth’s managers will look to add some size to that core. The best choice is Martone, Desnoyers or Frondell. But after the lottery won the draft, Armstrong reminded people that he will always pick the best players, which is why Hagens will be on the radar of the Mammoth because he was once regarded by some as the most talented player in the draft class.
For every player’s knowledge, Utah’s fourth overall slot cannot make bad choices. The high-end talent in this draft class is expected to be successful at the NHL level, even outside of the names we have discussed. Ultimately, the mammoth will have to separate the hair to decide who is best for them, and no matter who they choose, they will receive another high-value asset to add to the numerous potential customers they already have.
