The latest about the rotation of the Red Sox

Right-handed Tanner Houck It was illuminated by the Tigers last night, and it was the latest chapter of a very frustrating season. After the game, manager Álex Cora will not promise Hawk to start again. “Of course, we'll talk about that,” said Chris Cotillo of Cora's Chris Cotillo. “I have to look at the video, we have to see what we are going to do. Now, it's so fresh. It's so fast. We have to look at it and see if it's mechanical, usage or where it's.”
Hawke only lasted 2 1/3 innings last night, but he allowed 11 runs, three walks and nine hits during that time, including two home runs. He didn't record strikeouts. Shockingly, that was the second time he allowed to get 11 runs from the start of the year, the first game against the Rays on April 14.
He now scored an average run of 8.04 in 43 2/3 innings throughout the season. This is a change compared to last season. After years of spinning and oscillation between bullpens, he seems to have established himself as a true starter in 2024. His 20.7% strikeout rate is a bit below average, but he has a 6.5% walk rate and a 55.9% higher ground ball rate.
So far this year, everything has gone in the wrong direction. His walking rate rose slightly to 8.4%, but his strikeout dropped to 15.8%, while he only got 48.3% of the time.
Hawke said he couldn't find anything physically wrong, and it was a mystery, which was backed by the data. His speed is actually higher than last year. For whatever reason, his separator is less efficient, which seems to be an important part of the problem. Last year, the opponent hit .194 with a .264 shooting percentage, but those numbers are .425 and .475 this year. His sweeper's influence has also declined, albeit at a lower level. Last year, the court averaged 0.230 and 0.357 balls, but this year it was .305 and .492.
When Cora is laid out, this is a puzzle they have to solve, although they may not allow the Houck to rotate. Currently, the club is also starting Garrett Crochet,,,,, Lucas Giolito,,,,, Brayan Bello and Hunter Dobbins. Giolito is the only person in the group with more than 2.78 ERAs, and he has only started three games since IL is approaching.
Sox also has reinforcements along the way. Walker Buehler,,,,, Richard Fitts and Kutter Crawford Everyone is on the IL and heading towards the return to the club. Buehler landed on the IL earlier this month due to shoulder inflammation, but no recovery mission is expected next week. Fitts and Crawford are farther apart, but are both throwing recently and appearing to be approaching a recovery mission. A month ago, Fitz landed on the IL due to a right brisket strain. Crawford is in Illinois (IL) year round because of tendinosis in his right knee.
When these guys return, it will be hard for Hawke to continue to have a place unless he can turn the situation around. That is that Sox even gave him a start, which doesn't seem to be guaranteed. In addition to those injured returnees, there are Sean NewcombHe made huge solids for the Sox last night. After Houck quit, he absorbed 5 2/3 innings and allowed two runs to get. He now has 3.51 ERA this year, both an introductory and a reliefist. Cooper Chriswell and Josh Winckowski Out of 40 people, and put forward good numbers in Triple-A.
Given how Houck performed last year, it might attract him a chance to solve this problem. However, they are currently in the Super Playoffs game and can only afford so much patience. Hawke had succeeded in becoming a reliefist before, so maybe they could kick him back there. But on the other hand, he is a clear space for the starter of the mid-rot, so maybe they don't want to give up on that. He still has the option to send it to Triple-A and try to turn the boat right. One way or another will require a decision to be made as soon as possible.
