The Oklahoma City Thunder were shocked by the Denver Nuggets in Game 1 of its Western Conference Semi-Final Series. Oklahoma City then ran a 43-point rout Wednesday night, and even the series turned to Denver on the next two games, starting with Game 3 on Friday night.
In Game 2, the Thunder led by 24 after the first quarter, scoring 87 points in the NBA playoffs and scored as many as 49 points in the first half. All five OKC starters and reserve striker Aaron Wiggins scored in double figures at the end of the half.
The Thunder took a 48-point lead in three quarters of the game, the fourth largest profit in NBA playoff history – less than OKC's 49-point advantage over OKC in the final quarter of the season's playoff opening game. The Thunder seemed to be falling behind in the first game.
“We know it’s about how we react,” said Thunder Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. “We can't do anything about what happened, so there's no need to let our heads down or be sad about it or be ashamed of it. All we can do is be better in the next game.”
As for the Nuggets, three-time MVP center Nikola Jokic made a foul at the end of the third quarter of the second game. He scored 17 points, 8 rebounds and 6 turnovers after scoring 42 points and 22 rebounds in the series opener.
However, the series is far from over. Denver was defeated in Game 3 of his first round against the Los Angeles Clippers, but again defeated Los Angeles in Game 4. Last year, the Nuggets also trailed with a two-game match against the Minnesota Timberwolves before winning three straight wins.
Michael Porter Jr. is also worried about his health. Although he is not in the third injury report, Porter has been dealing with a left shoulder sprain he suffered in the first round.
According to ESPN's basketball power index, the Thunder had a 64.3% chance of defeating Denver in Game 3. Oklahoma City has beaten Denver 5-0 in its last five games, while the Nuggets have been 4-1 in their last five home games.
