Pole club signs £20m Argentine star

With the championship season over, Leeds can begin preparing for a return to the Premier League. Daniel Farke's roster will require a lot of supplements to compete effectively in top flights, and one area to be addressed is defense.

Earlier this week, Leeds reportedly missed the signing of Eric Dier, who will leave Bayern Munich in the summer after agreeing to a pre-contract with Monaco in the summer. Since then, they have turned to other targets, one of which is currently trading in Ligue 1.

Leonardo Balerdi has been working in Marseille since 2021, but his four-year stay in France may be about to end.

Leeds pursues summer deals for Leonardo Balerdi

Leonardo Balerdi in action at Marseille

According to Via (Mot Leeds News), Leeds sent Boy Scouts to observe Balerdi's performance in recent weeks. The Argentine centre-back is believed to be one of the club's most important position goals, with Marseille willing to sell for £20 million.

At the age of 26, Balerdi already played a lot of experience in the top football matches in European football, and experience is what Leeds needs to add to the Premier League teams. Therefore, it makes sense to seek a deal with Marseille.

Balerdi may be one of several signings Leeds has made in the upcoming transfer window. They are expected to sign estate Solomon permanently from Tottenham Hotspur, while Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff is on their agenda. It remains to be seen who arrives at Elland Road by the end of the summer, but no matter who it is, Farke's roster will certainly be significantly different.
