Arniel, 62, coached the Jets to a 56-22-4 record and the first president won a trophy in his first season as the team’s chief coach. He served as associate coach for Rick Bowness in his first two seasons and helped Bowness build a strong cultural and leadership core. Arniel's coaching career is a former Jets player in the 1.0 ERA, dating back to 1995. From 2010 to 2012, he also served as head coach of Columbus Blue Jackets.

Other finalists were Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery and Montreal Canadas head coach Martin St. Louis. Carbery led the Capitals to the best record in the Eastern Conference, while St. Louis led the Canadiens back to the playoffs for the first time since he competed in the Stanley Cup final in 2021.
