Tommy Paul and Arthur Fiers will meet in the quarterfinals of the Miami Open hosted by ETA on Wednesday night, both chasing different milestones.
For Paul, it is his first appearance at this stage of the South Florida ATP Masters 1000 event, while Fiers returns to the quarterfinals for the second consecutive year, becoming the first Frenchman to reach the quarterfinals since Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in 2010.
Both players emphasized their quality this week after battling injuries late last season. Their clash is scheduled for just before 8:30 p.m.
Earlier in the day, #NextGenATP star Martin Landaluce took on 21st seed Jiri Lehecka in the first game of Wednesday’s men’s quarterfinals. The 20-year-old Spaniard is ranked No. 151 in the PIF ATP Rankings and is the lowest-ranked Miami quarterfinalist since 1994.
[Q] Landalus vs. [21] Lehecka (before 3:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time)
Landalus saved a match point against Sebastian Korda to extend his dream of reaching the Masters 1000m quarter-finals for the first time. The Spaniard had just two tour-level wins before Miami but doubled that number with wins over top-20 opponents Luciano Darderi and Karen Khachanov, according to the Infosys ATP Win-Loss Index.
The challenge will only intensify against Lehka, who has just defeated world No. 7 Taylor Fritz to reach the Masters 1,000m quarterfinals for the third time. If the Czech advances, his ranking in the PIF ATP Live Rankings will rise to a career-high No. 16.
Landalus, a product of the Rafa Nadal Academy, won the U.S. Open men’s title in 2022 at the age of 16 and made his debut at the Next Generation ATP Finals last year. He arrived in Miami in 2026 without a Tour-level victory, but he showed off his signature toughness with six straight wins, including qualifying, to fuel his breakout week.
Now, Landalus has moved up 48 spots to No. 103 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings, and a win in the semifinals could push him to No. 69. With both players looking to dominate the match with an aggressive style, all signs point to a fiery clash at Hard Rock Stadium.
[22] Paul vs. [28] Fils (before 8:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time)
If their only previous Lexus ATP meeting – a three-set victory by Paul in Shanghai in 2023 – is any indication, fans can expect a compelling battle this week between one of the tour’s biggest hitters and a player who thrives in moments of pressure.
Paul, whose 2025 season ended prematurely due to injury after the U.S. Open, has already reached the Delray Beach final this year and reached the quarterfinals in Miami for the first time after two three-set matches. The former world number eight will need his signature speed and defensive skills to counter Fiers’ explosiveness.
Fiers also endured a lengthy layoff, missing eight months with a back injury, before playing in the ATP 500 final in Doha in February, his third event back. The 21-year-old continued that intensity in the Sunshine Doubles, defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime in Indian Wells and Stefanos Tsitsipas in Miami, where he dropped just one match.
Still seeking his first Masters 1000m semifinal (0-4 in the Final Four), Fiers will be hoping to peak against the 28-year-old Paul, who has reached the semifinals at this level four times.
