Iga Swiatek: Six-time Grand Slam champion splits with coach after early exit from Miami Open

Six-time Grand Slam winner Iga Swiatek has parted ways with coach Wim Fissette after exiting the Miami Open early.
Fiset joined Swiatek’s team in October 2024 and helped her win her first Wimbledon title in July.
The 24-year-old won two more WTA Tour titles last year while working with the Belgian, in Seoul and Cincinnati.
However, she had a poor start to the season, failing to advance to the quarterfinals in all four tournaments she competed in in 2026.
Swiatek was eliminated in the second round of the Miami Open on Thursday by fellow Polish and world No. 50 Magda Linette.
It was Swiatek’s first first-round loss on the WTA Tour in 74 matches.
“Miami has been challenging for me. Of course, I feel disappointed, bitter and responsible for my performance on the court,” the world No. 3 said on Instagram on Monday.
“I also learned a lot of important lessons, which I think are very human.
“That being said, after working with my coach Wim Fissette for a few months, I decided to take a different path.”
Swiatek hired Fiset after ending a three-season partnership with fellow Polish player Tomasz Wiktorowski, who helped her win four Grand Slam titles.
The 46-year-old has worked with former Grand Slam winners Kim Clijsters, Angelique Kerber and Naomi Osaka during his coaching career.
“I’m grateful for his support, experience and everything we’ve achieved together – including one of my biggest dreams in sports,” Swiatek added.
“Wim, thank you for this time and for teaching me a lot. I wish you all the best – both professionally and personally.”
Swiatek said the rest of her coaching staff will remain the same and she will let fans know what happens next “at the appropriate time.”
“I’m taking some time to care for myself, process this experience, and prepare for this new chapter. Simply put, one step at a time, because as I always say – this is a marathon, not a sprint,” she added.
Fiset, while wishing her well, noted that he and Swiatek aim to achieve even greater success during their collaboration.
“You never know where life will take you and the people you will meet along the way. I met Iga at the Wimbledon Champions Dinner in 2018 when she won the junior title. Seven years later we won the title together. A beautiful story,” he said on Instagram.
“We all wanted and worked for more, but shared important moments and lessons learned. Iga, I now wish you good luck and success in what comes next. I’m sure you’ll get it.”
